From the recording Theology For A Shaken Nation
Lyrics
Verse 1 (adapted original – anchor)
Crown Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon the throne;
Hark how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy chosen King
Through all eternity.
Verse 2 (new – authority reframed)
Some crown themselves with borrowed light,
With power claimed, not earned;
Some speak of wrong as if it’s right
And mock the truths they’ve learned.
Some shout His name to mask their fear,
Then trade the vow they swore,
But crowns don’t rest on lies or threats
Or gold that buys the poor.
Verse 3 (new – law, democracy, conscience)
The law was shaped for every soul,
Not thrones of favored men;
It stands or falls, it binds us all,
Again and yet again.
No banner waved, no force displayed
Can sanctify a lie—
The meek don’t kneel to idols raised
To feed a hungry pride.
Verse 4 (new – protest clarity, hymn-consistent)
Crown Him—and Him alone,
Not those who truth repress,
Not crowns of noise, not flags of rage
Disguised as righteousness.
Let mercy tame the strong,
Let truth outlast the flame,
We crown the love that does not rule
By hatred, force, or shame.
Verse 5
Crown Him the Lord of truth,
Who breaks the tyrant’s spell,
Who lifts the least, defends the weak,
And loves His enemies well.
While empires rise and fade,
And power shifts its claim,
His crown is worn by those who choose
The hard, enduring way.
Verse 6 (Repeat of Anchor verse)
Verse 1 (adapted original - resolution)
Crown Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon the throne;
Hark how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy chosen King
Through all eternity.
